Accommodation

The Almshousing in Rochester Row consists of 38 single bedroom flats consisting Sitting-Room, Bedroom, Kitchen and Bathroom. View the accommodation TOUR.

Each room has an alarm cord to summon a Warden in case of emergency. Our Wardens live on the estate and are available in case of need most of the time. When our own wardens are not present, the service is provided by Kensington and Chelsea Community Alarm Service (Link)

The flats are let under licence to long term Westminster Residents. The qualifications which applicants need: Criteria

Our housing charity pays for the cost of the Warden-Call Service as well as other services. Residents pay only for maintenance of the property. Charges are held at the equivalent Fair Rent level so that the accommodation is affordable by all.

Grants

Relief in Need

There are many ways in which our Charities may be able to give assistance to people in need. They include:

Grants to individuals in the form of:

- Allowances
- Special payment to relieve sudden distress
- Payment of traveling expenses or associated costs of visiting people in hospital or in homes - Payments to assist in meeting electricity, gas and water bills.
- Payment of television licence fees.
- Payment for the repair of household appliances

Provision of items:

- Furniture, bedding, clothing, food.
- Washing machines and refrigerators.
- Radio or television sets for the bedridden or housebound

Payment for services such as:

- Essential house decorating.
- Essential household repairs
- Child minding for limited periods

provision of facilities such as:

- The supply of tools or professional books.

We are not able to:

- Duplicate any payment or any service to which people are entitled by right ( i.e.; from the Government, a landlord or an employer).
- Pay for holidays or respite care.
- Help those who are capable of gainful employment.
- Help those who do not satisfy the criteria of our Regulating Schemes.
- Help organisations.

Education

There are also many ways in which we are able to help with education. They include

- The supply of books, instruments, traveling expenses.
- The award of Exhibitions for tertiary education or for vocational training.
- Contribution to the cost of medical elective training

Applications for help with education: for example, to buy clothing might reveal a level of social deprivation which we would consider as a'relief-in-need' matter.

We are not able to:

- Pay school or college fees
- Help those who do not satisfy the criteria of our Regulating Schemes
- Help those studying for second Degrees or engaged in postgraduate studies

HOW TO APPLY We welcome applications from individuals in need who fit the criteria of our Schemes. There are no forms to fill in but, we shall need convincing information to substantiate a claim. We are very happy and in some circumstances, we prefer to receive applications from a third party. Please start the process by contacting us.

Allowances

Very small quarterly allowances are paid to elderly Londoners whose circumstances qualify them for grants and who from time to time may need further financial support. The main purpose therefore is to maintain a regular line of communication by which the Charities will know when help is needed.

In order to be eligible for help from the Charities of this Group, applicants must satisfy the following criteria.
